EMPLOYMENT STATUS: The answer to this question will show whether the individual is an employer, an employee or self-employed, is un- employed, or is a housewife, student, retired person, or a person otherwise not seeking employment. No questions will be asked about the amount earned.

INDUSTRY, TRADE OR SERVICE: The enumerators will attempt to learn the precise nature of employment. For instance, a miner will be asked what he mines and the enumerator will classify him accordingly under metal min- ing, non-metal mining, stone quarrying, etc.

OCCUPATION OR CRAFT: Again the object is to learn the precise nature of occupation. For instance, workers in transport and communica- tions will be subdivided into 11 major groups, ranging from messengers to airline pilots. With primary producers the system goes even further to show such factors as whether the lond is the farmer's own or rented and if the rent is stated in money or grain.

EDUCATION: i.e. the highest grade reached at school or university. Those still studying full- time will be asked what class or year they have reached.

LITERACY: This question will apply only to those who are 10 years of age or more.
