AUTUMN DOUBLE PREVIEW HELEN KWONG REGAINS
Coughing epidemic expected
to take further toll of promising Cesarewitch entries
London, Oct. 2.
With the Cesarewitch, the first leg of the "Autumn Double" at Newmarket, less than two weeks away, the few promising performers who have emerged from a long list of entries may be even further reduced by the coughing epidemic, which is devastating the current racing strength of the majority of stables. More than fifty per cent of the horses at Newmarket are affected.
The outbreak which threatens candidates for the big race on October 12, has already claimed an estimated 2,000 victims.
With more horses coughing every day, predletions that busi- ress would be extremely light! at the second rallover for the) Cesarewitch and the Cambridge- ! shire the uther half of the "double" to is run on October 26--became reality on Tuesday
