London, Sept. 20. A U.S. destroyer chased a Soviet trawler from the North Atlantic rendezvous of the greatest Nato naval manoeuvres in three years, U.S. and Nato spokesman said today.

A prisoner who escaped from Prison Hospital yesterday phoned the Comptroller of Prisons offering to come back in the morning if police did not search for him last night.
The Comptroller, Mr A. H. Waterer, said he told the prisoner he could make no such deal.
The prisoner replied "then I'll have to shoot through."
