St Denis's detailed account of the day he spent with 10.30 SERVICE FROM THE UNION Britain's wartime Prime Minister arranging the French translation of Churchill's broadcast to `occupied France in October 1940——a day of constant interruptions from enemy bombardment and defen- sive gunfire, journeys to and

from the air-raid shelter, and passionate arguments about phraseology, to the final dramatic moment when the famous voice reached out from the BBC across the English Channel: "Francais! C'est moi, Churchill, qui vous parles."

When the broadcast was over Churchill stood up, his eyes full of tears, and said “We have made history tonight.” At Broadcast- ing House the whole French Sec- tlan of the BBC gathered round St Denis, their leader. to hear from his own lips the story of that extraordinary day with Churchill-the story which is told again in this programme.
