West African Games will form part of Nigeria's independence celebrations
Lagos, June 29.
Nigeris is to be host to 323 athletes and officials from eight West Africah countries, Britain, the United States, Australia and the West Indies who are taking part in West Africa Games to be held in Lagos, the capital of Nigeria, as part of her independence celebrations in October this year.
The Games which are expected to be run on similar lines to the Pan American Games, the Asian Games and the European Games will last from October 5 to October 9. There is hope that they will mark the beginning of large scale international competitions among the rapidly emerging and developing nations of West Africa.
At the forthcoming meeting. there will be only four events: football, athletics, boxing and table tennis.

The Organising committee of the West African Games is pro- viding a Games Village in a self-contained portion of the new Workers' Housing Estate of the Lagos Executive Development Board at Suru-Lere on the mainland of Lagos. Sleeping and toilet facilities will be provided there, and catering and rẻcren- tional facilities will be available at the Lagos Teachers' Training College, situated about 400 yards from the new National Stadium where the Games will be held.

Teenage Japanese swimmers with international experience should be ready to capture swim- Ming Honours for Japan at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Japanese Amateur Swimming Federation re- eently announced a five-year scheme, with the emphasis on youth and experience, to develop Japan's swimming strength for the Tokyo Olympics.
The plan covers swimming. diving and water pole.
The Federation says that it; will invite to Japan 15 leading Rope Olymple swimmers and divers for next year's National Swimming Championships,
Promising Japanese swim- mers and divers will be sent oversees to gain experience in Internalánal competition and foreign coaches will be invlied to Japan.
Programme
A nationwide series uf swimming competitions are to be organised for schoolchildren to stimulate their interest and to develop the best swimmers.
