Brian Stott, Yorkshire's opening batsman, ́entered the race to be the first to hit 1,000 runs in May since 1928 with a fine 116 against Kent at Gravesend today.
This gives him a total of 671 runs 71 behind Sussex skipper Ted Dexter and 55 ahead of Dexter's team mate Jim Parks. Both Parks and Dexter were without a match today.
