Strange Case Of The Two Duchesses

An application to commit the Duchess of Argyll to prison was brought in the law courts today by a former wife of the Duke.

The application - one of the most unusual of its type to come before the courts

The judge, Sir Glibert James Paull, opened the

court only briefly to warn reporters that no report of what had happened should be published.

He said "In this matter i de- sire to state in open court that while have been in chambers I have taken a certain course.

"If I find that any statements are made or reports are published purporting to suy what has happened before me in chambers, I shall take stetys to see that the matter is report ed to the proper authorities for notion,

"It is essential for the proper administration of justes that statements should not bt broadcast with regard to mat ters heard in chambers. Such maiters corrern the pariles only and no one else.”

The application was brought on behalf of Mrs Louise Timp- sol, 53, second wife of the 50- year-old Scottish, Duke wise marriage to him was dissolved In 1951.

She is now married to a banker and lives in New York. Ifer elder son, the Marquis of Lome, is heir to the Duke of Argyll
