THE LIFE OF QUEEN MARY
то
By
JAMES
POPE-
HENNESSY
Mr James Pope-Hennessy was entrusted the official biography of Her Majesty the late Queen Mary, and we announce with pride that next week the Sunday Post- Herald will publish the first of a series of long extracts from this eagerly-awaited book in advance of its publica- tion by Allen and Unwin.
By permission of Her Majesty the Queen, Mr Popo- Hennessy was given unrestricted access to the private papers of Queen Mary, and these included Queen Mary's diaries, the diaries of King George V, the letters exchanged between King George and Queen Mary, and the diaries and letters of Queen Victoria.
As a result, the great majority of the quotations from the writings of Royal personages throughout the biography | appear in print for the Arst time.
Mr Popo-Hennessy was also allowed to make use of certain material outside the Royal Archives, including the papers of His Royal Highness the Duke of Windsor. This has enabled him to include an importent chapter-to appear, of course, in thrae columne-on Queen Mary's view of the abdication of 1830.
Queen Mary, contrary to popular belief, had an essen- tially dramatic life, and played a far more influential role in the affairs of the British Monarchy during the last three reigns than has been generally assumed,
Mr Popa-Hennessy's story, five years in preparation, is a fully-rounded portrait of a woman who became the living symbol of queenliness, and a reflection of nearly a full century spanned by her life.
This authorised biography begins NEXT SUNDAY in the
