Manny's Pal Tells How He

Was Killed

Thirty-year-old top-flight jockey Manny Mercer : was cracking a joke a split-second before he

died at Ascot races on Saturday.

Although the accident that killed him took place in front of the stands just before the fifth race, few people saw it. One wlio did was Mercer's friend, Peter Robinson, rider of Entail. Robinson gave me this dramatic account of Manny's last moments:
