world's largest auto... mobile manufacturer, yes- terday reported gross in- come at an all-time record for the first half of 1959. Actual sales and net income for the half year and the second quarter were the second best in the company's history-exceeded only by 1955.

The total gross income repre- sented a gure that far outstrip- ped that of any US. corporation for the period.

Total income amounted to $0,562,649,049, That was well above the total for the Brut half

of 1950 which amounted to $5,164,425,240, and compared with the previous record set in 1953 at $6,333,520,002.

NET PROFITS General Motor income for the first half of 1050 brought the total net profits of the five automobile companies - GM. Ford, Chrysler, Amaican and Studebaker to just under billion dollars, exactly $905,- 26140,716. This compared with $320,434,705 for the four com- panies in the first half of 1058.
