ARMY SPORTS
PARADE
Both the Army first and reserves division football
teams were in action during the weekend. In the first division Army were successful against CAA by seven goals to nil. This game, played in patches, simply showed the difference between our team who were very fit indeed, and CAA who were anything but fit. Playing well within themselves Army piled on the pressure when necessary, and goals came steadily right the way through. In spite of the heat, our players always fought for the ball, and gave a lesson in good clean passing.
The reserves received a de ould show seven selback to their hopes of cap- turing the reserve division cham- plonable, and were defeated by Kuchen by two goals to uil.

Leg-Spin Practice
It
may be that Subhash Gupte's presence in this country with the Indian team Season will provide English balsmen with the opportunity of more practice against leg- spin bowling.
An absence of leg apin takes one of the excitements and one of the great aris out of the game. The leg spinner is the antidote 10 dull or negative cricket. When he is on, either wickels are falling or runs aro being scored. I look forward to his retur in force to the game.

Covers Help
1 Qm sure the decision about she partial covering of wickets will help cricket and cricketers. My only criileism is that it has not gone for enough.
We mual have iruer and Yaster' wickets. The decision
to see covers is, a step in the
right direction for this pur- pose. The fact that some of the variety may go from the game, must be accepted Inevitable.
3.
The better wickets which covering will produce will not only help the game financially but will also be an important factor in developing good bowl+] ers and good batsmen,

I do not feel that the wickets produced by covering will resuit In duller county cricket,
I am positive that by now county cricketers and County captains have como to realise that their survival depends on making the game' more exciting and more 'colourful, and I am certain they will do so. Good wickets will be an old, not on obstacle, to achieve this,
