AUSTRALIA'S UNCOMFORTABLE START TONIGHT'S

England's Spinners Keep Up Accurate Bowling

Sydney, Jan. 12.

Australia, three without loss at stumps on Saturday, were 40 for one at lunch and 87 for three after lunch on the third day of the third Test after a tense morning-long battle between England's accurate attack and Australian

batsmen.

England were all but late on Saturday for 219.

Freddie Trueman and the Surrey spinners, Tony Lock and Jim Laker, gave the batsmen an uncomfortable time with their accurate bowling, and Jim Burke, two not out on Saturday, gave two chances both off Trueman - before he was taken by Lock at fine leg off Laker's first over of the day for 12.

Both spinners were able to turn the ball and once or twice McDonald went way out of the crease to meet the ball before Laker had actually bowled.

It looks as if some sort of war-dance is going on here during the first division cricket league match between Army North and Indian Recreation Club at Svekunpoo, on Saturday.

In fact, the occasion for the varied expressions and postures was the dis- missal of Army North batsman D. Hill who is being caught out here by R. Lal- chandani (not in photo) at long mid-off after scoring four runs,
