First-Finishing Tudor Era Relegated To 2nd Place After Objection

Laurel Park, Nov. 11.

An Australian entry won the Washington D. C. international horse-race for the first time today when "Sailor's Guide", A nine-to-one chance, was awarded the classic prize after an objection against the American winner "Tudor Era" was sustained.

The oldest horse in the race, six-year-old "Sailor's Guide" was owned by A. C. and Keith Dibb, who sold him to Leon Levy, owner of the American Atlantic City race-track in New Jersey, before the race for $50,000.

Impressive «Progress_In_HK_ Boxing A NEW SEASON AND A NEW ERA BEGAN LAST NIGHT

By Our Boxing Reporter

The 1958-59 boxing season got under way with a Novices Tournament at

the Missions to Seamen last night, There was nothing particularly spectacular about what happened among the various contestants > yet a good crowd of spectators saw a new fistic era being ushered in, and they saw, too, another important link being forged in the impressive chain of progress which the Hong- kong Amateur Boxing Association is building up.

Maybe few of the fans who sat round the ring or filled the balcony knew or cared anything of what was taking place outside the roped square but, to those of us who have watched the determined efforts of the HKABA to stand on its own feet, last night was a most im- portant occasion,

Don't imagine that reluxation point has been reached. It has not. There are still many more things to be tackled but such 1s the enthusiasm within the HKABA

that there la little doubt that when their official observer tables his Берега points at the next mscling they will be adequately dealt with and corrected at future promotions.

The organisation last night wus quietly efficient and the young Bovice boxers were given

chance every

to show what they could do. The bouts

were unobtrusively yel mis handled by the three referees and no budding pugilist had to endure unnecessary punishment.

Fireproof Suit For

Motor Racing Driver?

By DEREK JOHN

One of the worst hazards of the motor racing driver will be almost completely eliminated if experiments now being conducted in Britain are successful. Backroom-boys at a Birmingham factory have devoloped a special material from which they hope to make a new fireproof suit light enough for drivers to wear. Fire-resistant clothing has been used by jet pilots for some years, but this proved to be too hot for the cockpit of à racing car.

The new suit for drivers may be ready in time for the start of noxt season's racing. It will make the sport much safor.
