Mooncake Bakers

Do Roaring Trade

Generally, by this time of year, many Chinese people are heartily sick of the sight of mooncakes. For the Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival, as it is more popularly known, is an occasion for

mutual exchange of hundreds of thousands of boxes of what appear to be nothing more exciting than meat ples.

People save all the year round to buy them just to give them away for old custom's sake.

Mooncake bakeries do a roaring trade. Sales are said to top the five million dollar mark. So that there are no qualms about leaving hundreds of lights on all night as they do all over the Colony, as the above pictures by our photographer show.

The Moon Festival is one of the big events on the Chinese calendar everywhere and the fact that Hongkong turns out the most popular mooncakes in the world is an added reason why the lights blaze merrily,

The Big Day is on Saturday.
