A Paddle Steamer For

Hongkong Harbour

BY ANDREW SLOAN

Resting on the slipway of a local shipyard is a rusty-looking hull of a 500-ton freighter, which in five weeks' time will become the star of the film, "Ferry to Hongkong," at a cost of HK$480,000. Under the skilled hands of a small army of shipwrights the rust-marked hull will be transformed into a paddle-steamer, reminiscent of the type of vessels which still ply their way up and down the River Clyde in Scotland.

The woman

J. Arthur Rank, makers of the film, have spared no ex", pense to provide an authentic "steamer" for the Alm. This single facet of the production alone cost £30,000, nearly half s'million dollars, and it has not been fully completed at that.
