Stocks Many Manage To Regain Losses

By A SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

The Hongkong Stock Exchange improved slightly after last week's selling pressure as the Formosa Straits trouble quietened down this week.

There was a better feeling on the market resulting in a near all-round improvement of prices especially in the utility section where the majority of stocks managed to recover their losses of the previous week.

REMAINS

STEADY

London, Sept. 11. Markels were steady after yesterday's break through a new peak for the the industrial year in average. Investors, how- ever, were in a cautious mood.

Some were awaiting President Eisenhower's policy statement on China while others were de- pressed by the Iron and steel! production figures for August | which showed steel consumption In Britain currently running live. per cent below a year ago. Th decline has added to the effects of the deslocking process of the first half of this year and os a result there has beos a decline In the industry's output of steel. I fell to 70 per cent of capacity. Bank rate unchanged to- day but many people believe another cut is due.
