TOP: Running close to Herb Elliott for the title of world's sportsman of the week is 23-year-old Albert Thomas, also of Australia.
In July Thomas set up a new three-mile world re- cord of 13 minutes 10.8 seconds. Last Wednes- day he broke the four. minute barrier, finishing fifth in the "mile of the century" in 3 minutes 58.6 seconds, and on the follow- ing day clocked 8 minutes 32 seconds, to beat Sandor lhares's previous world "best of 8 minules 33.9
seconds for the two miles.
