Honeymoon Turns

To Murder

Bude, Cornwall. Aug. 8.

Mrs Daphne Oldfield, 32, said here today her husband pushed her over a cliff during their honeymoon, then battered her with a stone when he found her still alive on the beach.

John Sanders Ularield, 33, was sent for trial charged

with attempted murder.

The prosecution said it was

a "miracle" the wife

survived, after tailing 117 feet.

Mrs. Oldfield said they were walking along the cliff she told her husband she top together, when would like to go to a dance the following night. "The next thing I knew I had been pushed over. When she called for help, her husband came, . beat her over the head with a stone, and tried to choke her, saying: "I am going to kill you," she alleged.

The prosecution told the magistrates: "You may wonder whether there is something about the accused that will have to be inquired into at some other place."

Oldfield said several times in a statement that his wife was a "rotten woman," but would not explain what he meant, police stated,

Mrs. Oldfield agreed with Mr F. E. Peezley, prosecuting that during the honeymoon three attempts were made to consummate the marriage, but they were "not entirely successful."

She said her husband did not appear to be blaming her for the failure. Asked if she blamed him, Mrs Oldfield replied: "No. I agreed there was plenty .ol time."China Mail Special.
