Washington, May 2. The Atomic Energy Com- mission announced today that as part of the forth- coming United States atomic tests in the Pacific, certain short-range dofen- sive missiles with nuclear- warheads would be fired from Johnston Island.

Johnston Island La about 540 miles south-west of the nearest inhabited island of the Hawnilan chain and about 900 miles from the nearest other inhabited inland.
