COMMENT OF THE DAY
BUDGET DEBATE
THE Legislative Council Ton Wadarenday passed the Colony's Budget into law after a prolonged debate. A record deficit has been budgeted for by the Finan etal Secretary, the Hon. A G. Clarke, but he does not anticipate that we will be down to the tune of over $90 million.
Mr Clarke, when the Budget was first introduced, appeared to be in happy mood, even though at first sight his anticipated dufelt was a large one,
of will, course, watch the monthly published figures and hope for the best and there is to doubt Mr Clarke's opinism at this stage.

Khrushchev was reported to have said in Budapest speech that the United States and Brl- tain should follow the Soviet Union's example and suspend testing of nucleat weapons, and also to have declared that the Kremlin was prepared to have international supervision of such suspension.
UN Resolution
White's reaction was that I the Soviet Union really wanted to show its "goodwill" in this respect it should have joined the majority of nations in the UN General Assembly which last November 14 approved a 14- solution calling for immediate suspension of tests "with prompt installations of effective inter- national control."
The resolu- tion also called for an end to production of Alonable materiala for weapons purposes, of stocks of nuclear reduction weapons and reduction of con ventional armed forces.
