The National Boxing Association today named Middle- weight Champion Carmen Basilio of New York as "Boxer of the Year" for his "lion hearted" perform- ance in wresting the crown from Ray Robinson. Fred Saddy, Chairman of the NBA Rating Committee, said in announcing the former welterweight champ as winner of the honour: "Basilio, a lion-hearted fighter, gave away weight and cleverness to Robinsonians (Herond Division).
