Race Commentaries From Happy Valley
This Afternoon
This year's Kwangtung Handicap Race will be brought to armchair sportsmen who prefer to remain at home and examine their sweep tickets at the end of the race by commentaries from Tim Brinton and Ted Thomas which will be broadcast on Radio Hongkong from the Racecourse at ten minutes to three this afternoon. It is hoped that the winning sweep ticket numbers will become available during the broadcast.
"Sports Cavalcade", Radio Hongkong's week- ly round-up of major sports events, has captured most of the highlights of what has been a very full week for sporting enthusiasts. The main item in a crowded programme is a commentary of the last few minutes of the soccer match between the visiting Israeli team, Hapoel, and Hongkong.
John Wallace follows this with an interview with one of the team officials, in which the comparative standards of soccer are discussed. Bill Dorward brings to the microphone a star in one of the less popular of Hongkong's sports C. Mayne of the Royal Air Force pushed the Colony's Cycling Champion, Au Chung Sing, to a near defeat at the Athletics meeting held last Sunday, and he tells listeners of his career as a class cyclist and of much of his experience in England.
