ARMY SPORTS
A PARADE
With this week's spotlight centred on Tai Lam and a review of the sporting achievements of the 24 Fleld Engineer Regiment, RË, I shall be expected to give pride of place to the successes of their football team, but with this grand sapper regiment commanded by Lieut-Colonel B. P. Tyrwhitt-Drake, MBE, RE, soccer fills only a part of their sporting activities as I hope to show.
Naturally, as holders of the Caldbeck Cup last season the emphasis should be soccer, and early in the season it was obvious that it would take a good team to defeat them. Knowlodgeable soccer followers, however, awaited the departure of stars Melones and Dow, and expected a decline, but replacements from the reserves more than came up to expectations and the loss of these class players was hardly felt.

By "TOUCHER”
G. F. Santos of Craigengower Cricket Club, probably the smallest bowler in this year's Colony Lawn Bowls Cham- pionships, brought off his second successive major upset win yesterday when the Open Singles Championship continued with nine more matches and established himself as the "Mighty Mite" of the season.
Following up his earlier 22-6 triumph over ex-Champion C. C. Pereira, Santos yesterday gave another brilliant exhibition of accurate drawing to the jack at Kowloon Dock Club to eliminate Joe Landolt, the 1947 Champion, by 21-17.
