Hongkong may have a good record for rehabilitating former tubercular patients — but it's a different story when it comes to finding jobs for cured lepers,

In Singapore yesterday, Mrs Emily Chew, General Manager of the Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Rehabilin- tion Centre, said on her retum from Hongkong that the fight against TB in Hongkong was greatly helped by the co-operation of business firms.

"In Hongkong the people do not shun former TB patients," she said.

But a spokesman for the Hongkong Auxiliary of the Mission to Lepers told the China Mall this morning it was moet difficult to find anyone in Hongkong to employ cured lepers.

The Hongkong Medical Department and the Lantao Development Company had found work for several of these former patients, but there were still about 20 more ready and willing who had no jobs.
