New Assembly
Hall
Opened
An important milestone in the history of the Gun
ih School, Kowloon, was marked this morning when the new school assembly building was officially opened by Brig. L. M. Cholmeley.
THROUGH the mid-che West End Street a gaunt, greying African thrust his way, bumping and boring roundly cursing every-
one who got in his way.
A policeman hofted him, "Now then he began, "behave like a sensible chaß and.
The rest of his advice was crowned in n torrent of shouted buse, as Arthur, the African, neated the officer to a piece of his mind, thrusling ine air about him as he did zo with a number of lube-shaped parcels
that he carried,
Yes, sir," said Arthur, force- fully, und, rounding Dn the policeman, demanded: "Do you think I gone suddenly berserk or drunk or something? 'Cos don't drink or smoke or bei or nothing,
and I was so taken abock I was speechless."
"You were very excited," the officer said.
Mr A. J. Bryan, Headmaster, said that now the children could have a proper place of assembly, instead of meeting in the playground where they were at the mercy of the weather.

BELLS INSTALLED IN NEW STAR FERRY PIER CLOCK TOWER
People living within a mile radius of the new Star Forry pier on the island side got up this morning to the musical notes of the Westminster chimes coming from the clock tower of the pier.
The chimes have been pealing out their notes since Tuesday but were not turned on for 24 hours until yesterday. Public Works Department engineers, who are testing them, said that it is likely that they will continue to peal every quarter of an hour, half an hour and on the hour until they have been perfectly adjusted. The mechanism which sets them pealing will then be turned off until Star Ferry pier is ready for use, probably in November this year.
The clock and the chimes in-] stalled on top of the 07-foot tower are the gift of Mk John Keswick, a Director of Jardine, Matheson & Co., Ltd., who was until recently a Hongkong resident.
The chimes are cast to the exact note of those of Big Ben SET OF 5 BELLS
