London Market Has Very
Confusing Week
By C. T. Hallinan
London, Apr. 29. Markets have found the week-the first full post-budget week-thoroughly confusing.
Perhaps part of it was due to the Chancellor's budget' speech which lacked the usual appeal to the nation to go onwards and upwards but was content to tidy up details without adding any new ideas about the country's economy, Another facfor was the realisation that the Western world as a whole seems to be headed, like Britain herself, into a period of higher bank rates. The United States, Japan, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand and others are to head off inflation, increasing the cost of borrowing money.
No agroetnent seems to have been reached us to just whot will happen next.
