The Illinois state primary result was regarded here today as a reprieve for Mr Adlai Stevenson after the earlier setbacks in his campaign for nomination as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.
Stevenson supporters, who include many of the national Democratic leaders, jubilantly greeted the returns as new evidence of his ability as a vote- getter despite his unexpectedly severe defeats in the recent New Hampshire and Minnesota primaries.

SETTLED
An action by a firm of stevedores seeking in- demnity for compensation paid to a coolie injured in loading cargo and legal expenses incurred was heard before Mr Justice J. R. Gregg in the Supreme Court this morning.
After an adjournment following the plaintiff's evidence, Mr Leong announced that the parties had come to a settlement and asked for the case to be withdrawn with each side paying their own costs. The Judge struck out the action and made no order as to costs.
