London, Mar. 14.
Four of the eight seeded players crashed to defeat in the men's singles in the All-England, Badminton Championships which began at the Empress Hall, today.
Another shock was the defeat of Heather Ward (Britain) the No. 4 seed, in the women's singles, and Britain's most promising young player. The first surprise in this day of shocks came in the second round of the men's event, when the Malayan, Ong Poh-lim, suffering from a strained calf muscle, was beaten 15-6, 15-10 by the British farmer, Hugh Findlay.
