PROPOSED RUNNING OF....... British Marathon In Mid-Summer Has Led To Sharp Criticism

London, Mar. 6.

The proposed running of this year's British Marathon in mid-summer has led to some sharp criticism of the Amateur Athletics Association.

The Association has fixed July 28 as the date of the Marathon, and as usual it is to start in mid-afternoon when it is the hottest part of the year, the hottest part of the day, making it a distinct possibility that the race will be run in conditions similar to last July's Marathon, when a heat wave struck six of the runners and they had to be taken to hospital. Of the 63 starters, only 16 finished the course.

There have been many other pointers to the inadvisability of

running gruelling long-distance MCC Fail

races in the height of ammor hent. Among them were the collapse of Britain's Jim Peters the 1954 British Empire Games Marathon in Vancouver and the death of an American runner, Austin Scott, after an 18,000 Metres cross-country race. GRUELLING EVENT
