Cocoa Tops Rubber Colonial Exports

In

From An Economic Correspondent

London, Dec. 27. Cocoa replaced rubber as the biggest-earning export of the Colonial territories last year.

And

it climbed to first place despite smaller shipments overscas. The rise in its earnings, from £85 mil- lion in 1953 to £130 million last year, was more than accounted for by higher prices.

These higher cocoa earnings helped the West African territories to increase their export income last year to £230 million in 1953.
