Jimmy Guthrie, Players' Union Chairman and ex-Portsmouth star; touched off the soccer controversy of the season when he bluntly told the Trades Union Congress that professional footballers are "the last bonded men in Britain.”
But are players really serfs? I have thrashed out the whole question of players' rights with Stanley Matthews, Britain's greatest footballer, and here is the report of our two-man “congress".
