Other Nations
New York, Aug. 31.
While the political cold war continues to capture head- lines, the Soviet bloc in Europe has been quietly stepping up its economic ties with non-bloc neighbours in the Balkans and the Near East, according to a study of the Soviet trade offensive prepared by the National Committee for a free Europe.
Near East exports to the Communist bloc, it reported, increased in 1954 by about 56 per cent over 1953, while imports rose up by 25.9 per cent. Compared to 1952, the study showed, the increase was considerably less: 24.4 per cent for exports and 10.1 per cent for imports.
