TORTURE Technique To Stop Brainwashing
ADMIRAL TO TELL DEFENCE BOARD
Chicago, June 14.
Rear Admiral Dan V. Gallery will tell a Defence Department Board at Washing-- ton today about his "tell anything" technique to stop the Reds' brainwashing of American prisoners of war.
Admiral Gallery believes that this would smash the propaganda value of false "confessions" and "testimonials" extracted by torture or brainwashing. He has recom- mended that President Eisenhower direct prisoners to answer "yes" to all questions. They now are restricted to giving name, rank and serial number..
The Board before which Ad-|| miral Gallery is to appear was created to make recommenda- tions for instructions to military personnel in the event they are captured by an enemy.
NO DIFFERENCE
Admiral Gallery Cat phasised that his suggestion must be understood clearly in the free world. Horr rested it be transmitted through the United Nations. Ho said
It made difference how Iron Curtain countries viewed much policy
because propaganda could be manufactured for them without the formality
of actual "confessions."
Admiral Gallery is United States Commander of Naval Air Reserve training programmes with headquarters at the Glen- view, Illinois, naval air station. He first outlined his anything proposal in a mega- zine article earlier this year.

EGYPT BLAMED
EXECUTION
Versailles, June 13.
A strange tale of torture, "trial" and "execu- tion" carried out by inmates of a postwar Polish refugee camp unfolded here today as a French chemical engineer went on trial charged with a murder committed 10 years ago.
The engineer, Eugene Merlin, now 34-year-old, has confessed to having judged and taken part în the execution of Jacques Reveret, who was 21 years old, after torturing Reveret into "confess- ing" that during the war he had turned over to the Germans information which led to the death of several Frenchmen.
Merlin has declared, however, | Reveret, Merlin said. The group that two other refugees ad then formed a sort of "people's ministered the final "coup de court,"
