Lost Working Time
Last Year
London, May 11,
The impossibility of dealing with mass indiscipline is referred to by the National Dock Labour Board in their report for 1954, a year in which more man-days were lost through labour disputes than in any other year since the dock workers employment scheme was instituted in 1947.
The total number of man-days lost was 714,569, over 90 per cent of which was attributable to the dispute on the overtime ban in London last October and to the supporting action which followed at some other ports. Scrap West Germany
Washington, May 11.
The Commerce Department announced today an extra allotment of copper-base alloy scrap destined for West Germany.
It said current limitations, established in February, "have caused particular hardship to West German consumers, in view of their dependence upon the United States for the major portion of their imported supplies.
The new quota will permit scrap for the third quarter of shipment of copper-base alloy this yeaT.
| SCTIĄ containing 3,000 tons of copper. This extra supply will be licensed in late June for shipment after July 1.
The quota already established Kor the current
quarter of the year is an amount containing 17,000 tons of copper.
This total applies to all exports Thờ row supplemental quota is for West Germany alone.
Last year Germany imported 75,100 tons of scrap about (copper content) and 30,000 tons of refined copper. Scrap in the amount of 8,000 tors per month could readily be absorbed in Germas industry. this year, në- cording to German officials,
