DEMOCRATIC IS IRISH SPRINT HOPE
By RICHARD BAERLEIN
Several horses, who have run during the past four- weeks are worth noting for the future. The unluckiest loser I saw was undoubtedly Spinster's Folly, trained by Joe Lawson at Newmarket,
This well-bred colt was placed only once in seven races · last season but was backed in the New-

However, it was too late to get in touch with the leaders
and, although he frished well, Eph Smith wisely did not over-
drive him.

Democratic has done really well during
the winter, though he still looked backward and will obviously be better for the
race. His next objective in Eng- land will be the King's Stand Stakes at Ascot.
He did not enjoy an altogether lear run but, in Vilmoray, he
was up against one of the best sprinters in training. It was good performance for a three- year-old so early in the season,

Snooker
The importance of seeing what angles the balls make on the cushion on the table you are using is essential for the laying of snookers. Far too many amateur players use the easy method in laying a snooker when a little study of angles could produce something far more effective.
For example, a snooker is so often laid simply by running off one ball to finish behind another, This is all right if the balls are reasonably close together, but when they are some distance apart you need more cunning than that if your opponent is to be badly snookered.
If you require a stooker when playing from the position illustrated in Diagram 'A",
what would you do?

Many would simply themselves with contacting the blue on the right-edge of centre and getting the white ball, with the use of right-hand side, come away from the bottom cushion to finish behind the

In the Free Handicap he was always going well but, needing the outing, just lacked the necessary speed for a winning run. Should benefit considerably by the race and looks all set for a most successful season.

THIS YEAR'S CUP FINAL PROMISES TO BE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME
Says TOM FINNEY
Less than a week to the Cup Final. And what a relief it is to the players, when the long weary days of waiting are over, and at last they walk out on to the Wembley turf.
I don't know what you think about the Final this year, but I think it could be one of the greatest of all time. I'm not saying it will be because Wembley nerves can play" such a big part in the proceedings. I am not forgetting that last year Preston and West Bromwich Albion were playing so well that everybody thought it would be a wonderful match.
Len Millard, the West Bromwich captain, said before we trooped out: "A} the best, Tom. I hope, we can make it a game to. remember."
