It's easy to see the correct answer in today's hand, but the next time you see this situation in actual play you won't have the advantage of seeing the op ponents' cards.

The important point is that you cannot make the slam West happens to have four will trumps to the queen. He
you play his queen whenever lead the jack, and then he is bound to make a trump trick.
two Now let's comparethe ways of finessing. If you finesse through East for the queen of spades you will make your slam whenever East has the queen, whether the trumps are 3-2 or 4-1.
II, however, you finesse through West for the queen of spades you will make your slam queen whenever West has the provided that the trumps are 3-2; but you will not succeed when the trumps are 4-1 even if West has the queen. Obviously, the the first method gives you better chance.

DOBB,
the famous artist, presents today new sketches to help every woman capture a special springtime fashion-sense through the secrets of one of London's top designers,
John Cavanagh, a notable name in fashion, chooses for you his favourite outfit from the new collection,
But"Ab," you say. "High fashion means high prices, and Mayfair is not for
mel
Not so. For here you will find the secrets of the special dress set out so that you or your "little
round the woman corner"--can make them to meet YOUR pocket and YOUR. Ágúre."
Pictured on the right is an easy-to-copy model by CavanagİL.
LACE AND TAFFETA
The original model. is in pale grey-blue re-embroidered lace; the draped sash is fot the darkest shade of matching blue taffem.
John Cavanagh gives these points to note and hints to follow:-
The bodice and skirt are made separ ately. The skirt is full and panelled, but not circular. The slip is of pale matching taffeta, with shoulder straps of Besh- coloured, half-inch-wide net. HINT 1 TO GET the fist look "in the bodice the taffeta top of the slip is tight and stiffened. The lace is simply tacked on in four places.
KINT 2 THE SASH is tacked to the slip. There is no lace" underneath
make it this to neater. HINT 3 THE WAIST sash is the real danger spat, but only be- cause of the placing and depth. Every woman must decide what looks right on herself. But it is safe to start from the true waistline and judge the depth of the sash from there. (See Sketch A on left,)
HINT 4 FINISH the slip under- arm with a lace insertion-it looks better. (See B.)
IF the soft lace finish at the neck and arms is too Mficult for you to cut, it can be braided with the same shade of talleta as the sash. (See CJ)
If the re-embroidered" inter- laced seaming is too difficult on the Banelled skirt, cut the seams straight
It is worth trying your hand at re-embroidering the kare. Simply follow the outline of the lee pattern with a heavy silk thread-it gives a richer, stiffer .look to the lace.
