Talks Break Down Figures On

After 14 Hours

London, Apr. 15.

The government's bid to end London's 22-day- old newspaper strike failed early today

Marathon talks called by the government with representatives of the newspaper proprietors and the 700 striking maintenance men broke down after nearly 14 hours.

At midnight, dismissal notices issued by the news paper proprietors to 20,000 other non-editorial workers came into effect.

A statement by the Newspaper Proprietors Association early today said ünion representatives had insisted that they would end the strike only if they received an immediate wage increase beyond the amount already offered.

A union official said no further meetings had been arranged.
