The Moscow Operetta Theatre has bitterly attacked for a musical comedy entitled The Violet of Montmartre," which raised lots of laugh but lagged far behind the Communist party line.

In spite of its condemnation, by Soviet Music, the official organ of the Union of Soviet composers, The Violet of Montmartre was an outstanding success. The producer and stars were showered with bouquets on the first night, and the number of curtain calls was a record for this type of performance. The audience loved it.
