Lisbon, Jan. 26. In spite of two increases in fees during the past three years, the British Institute in Portugal is steadily gaining in popularity.

Run by the British Council with the object · of fostering the study of the English language, art and science in Portugal, the number of pupils registered for its classes has increased from 469 when it opened in 1988, to 1,294 in November 1951 and 2,017 in November last year.
