Will Examine Defence Budget With Care
Washigton, Jan. 17.
The Democratic leader in the Senate, Mr Lyndon Johnson of Texas, said today that President Eisenhower's Budget més- sage would receive very careful scrutiny to determine whether it provided an adequate and co-ordinated defence or whether it was in line with the "off again, on again, gone again" approach of the last two years.
Air Johnson told reporters:
"It is significant that for the third straight year the Administration, pledged to a balanced budget, is requesting an in- crease in the debt limit. Apparently this is a goal somewhat more difficult to achieve than the Republican compaign managers of 1952 realised.
