Public hearings have now begun in Washing- ton to clarify the United States approach towards tariff negotiations with Japan and other countries -due to start in Geneva on February-inĮ preparation for Japan's admission to full membership of GATT.

Last August the United States Government indicated its willingness within those multilateral negotiations to make certain concessions to countries which could not get from Japan full compensation for their own concessions.
