Congressional Opposition To Outright Gifts
EISENHOWER AGREES. TO CONSULT LEADERS
Washington, Dec. 14.
Congressional opposition developed today to providing the free nations of Asia large outright gifts of economic aid such as Europe received under the Marshall Plan.
The opposition was expressed as President Eisenhower sought bi- partisan support for expanded economic assistance to Asia at a White House conference of Republican and Democratic Congressional leaders.
The Administration has not outlined its plan in detail, but three Congress. men said they hope it does not develop into a "give-away" programme.
