1954 Retail Sales

May Reach

Volume Record

By John Morka

New York, Oct. 18.

Retail sales in the fourth quarter stands a good chance of lifting 1954 volume to record levels, according to US business observers.

If current predictions are borne out in the next three months, this could mean a tremendous windfall to dollar-needy exporters abroad who usually bank on the Christmas season 'for a substantial part of their annual sales in the United States.

Biggest beneficiaries would be foreign dealers in toys, cameras, foodstuffs, optical equipment, knitwear, liquor, linens, toiletries, woollen and leather goods, etc., imported from a host of countries including Great Britain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Scandinavia, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Japan, and to a lesser degree, from South America,
