Washington, Sept. 20,

The Minister of Laos, Qurot R. Souvannavong, told the United Press today he had warned the State Department that the withdrawal of the. French expeditionary force in Indo-China would spell the "death" of Laos.

Mr Souvannavong said he had made quite clear his point of view on the important meetings next week by high French and United States off- cials on the question of the French expeditionary force of 170,000 men remaining in Indo-China.

Diplomatic officials said that General Paul Ely, the French High Commissioner in Indo-China, the French Minister of the Associated States, Guy Lacham- bre, and the French Finance Minister, Edgar Faure, next week will ask the United States for substantial financial aid to help maintain the French ex- peditionary force in Indo-China,

Rome, Sept. 20.

Mr Robert Murphy, United States Under- Secretary of State, tonight informed the Italian Premier, Signor Mario Scelba, of his talks with Marshal Tito and other Yugoslav personalities on the problem of Trieste, an official communique said.

Mr Murphy, who arrived here from Belgrade on Saturday, spent an hour with the Premier.

The communique added that Mr Murphy will conclude his visit to Rome tomorrow with a meeting with
