Well, it seems that the Davidesses, or whatever is the female of David, have stili to appear so far as this year's Ladies' Tennis Championships are concerned because there can be very few who will not agree that in the quarter-finals of the Ladies' Doubles event, played last evening at the LRC, it was the favourites who came through.

Perhaps the surprises will come in the Mixed Doubles event; that imp wo mentioned yesterday is a bit like Mr Micawber, always waiting for something to turn up, but so far as our ladies are concerned, it seems (ungallant thought) as though our reigning champions are like King Charles the Second, an unconscionable time o' dying.
