Smooth-stroking Vic Seixas and hard-luck Miss Doris Hart today won the men's and women's singles titles in the U.S. Amateur Tennis Championships.

Seixas, a 81-year-old Philadelphian playing in the Nationals for the 14th time and in the finals for the second straight year, battled back to defeat Australian Rex Hartwig, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4.

And Miss Hart reached the end of the tennis rainbow when, after five previous heart-breaking trips to the finals, she finally proved her class and her courage by fighting off three match points to defeat Miss Louise Brough of Beverly Hills, Cali- formla, 6-1, 6-8, 8-6.
