Viewers in all the participat- ing countries saw programmes televised from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Hol- land, Denmark, Belgium and Switzerland. Emphasis was on actuality programmes and outside broadcasts, and on the first day viewers saw the Pope appearing on the balcony at the Vallenn, before the kneeling crowds.
