FIRST TEST MATCH
THE CHINA MAIL, TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 1954.
DEREK JOHNSON JUST MISSES
PAKISTAN'S OPENING BATSMEN PLOD THROUGH 14 RUNS IN FIRST HOUR
London, June 14.
After one of the longest waits for a game in Test match history, there came one of the slowest periods of scoring known when, in two hours 35 minutes at Lord's today, Pakistan put together but 50 runs for three wickets. With only one day left the match seems almost certain to peter out into a draw.
Pakistan, having been put in by England on a slow wicket, were content to be on the defensive. The Pakistan openers, Hanif Mohammad and Allmuddin, scored only 14 runs in the first hour.

Hungary's New Noblemen Are The Members Of The National Soccer Team
By FERDINAND WIMMER
Vienna, June 14.
Although the Communists claim to have abolished aristocracy, the young men of Hungary's hero-worshipped national soccer team are treated like princes and dukes.
These new Red noblemen live so well that there probably is little chance of them jumping the fence to Western freedom the way ofher Iron Curtain athletes have done.
In their Communist home land they are adored like film stors, fed ilke gammets, housed in luxury and clothed Jike Cabinet Ministers. Budapest
