Famed US Foundations Charged With "Diabolical Conspiracy"
New York, May 27.
A Washington inquiry into the social, educational and research projects of famous US foundations is not getting as much attention as the McCarthy-Army hearing but opposing sides in the issue maintain it is far more important to the future of the United States.
The inquiry by a House Committee is to determine whether such rich private foundations as the Ford, Carnegie, Rockefeller and Mellon groups have violated conditions under which they are exempted from paying taxes. The charge against the Foundations is that they have engaged in "propaganda" and "a diabolical conspiracy" aimed at the "furtherance of Socialism in the US."
