Safety Tests For New Vickers Plane

Washington, Apr. 6.

A Civil Aeronautica Au- thority spokesman said that the new Vickers Viscount turbo-prop transport would have to pass United States performance and safety tests before American air- lines were authorised to use the British plane in this country.

The spokesmen said the Pre- sident of Trans-Caribbean Air- waya, Mr Roy Chalk, had been Informed of the procedure which must be followed before 1: he can make use of ony. Vis-

counts.

Trans-Caribbean has Con tract with Vickers to purchase two of the Bridlsh turbo-prop transports for about $1,300,000.

The official said CAA had yot to receive certain data requested from Britain regarding the new plane's performance, equip ment and general ability to meet CAA's criteria for coril- fication of now aircraft.

"Our people in England' will probably have to get in the plane and to some flight tests,"

axtepect. he

Since the Vlacounte are not scheduled for delivery for several months, the curtification routine should not delay use of the planes if they meet CAA standards," "he said. -- United Prese.
